Our Story: Rooted in Heritage, Grown with love
The Legacy of the Land:
Our story begins in White Creek, New York, on what has long been known as the "Twin Field." This beautiful expanse of forest and fields has become part of the historic, circa-1890s Nolan homestead and sheep farm. (Later to become the three Nolan brothers Dairy farm)Today, we are proud to care for this land as its 5th generation stewards.
Surrounded by fresh, winding streams and bordered by hundreds of acres of protected state forest, Shaker Hollow is a place of incredible natural beauty, deep biodiversity, and rich history.
Planting Roots & Cultivating Patience:
In 2022, we looked out at our field and envisioned a new chapter: Shaker Hollow Trees & Bees. We began by planting rows of Christmas trees, embarking on a journey of patience as we watch them slowly grow year by year, waiting for the seasons when they will eventually brighten your holidays.
But a thriving farm needs a heartbeat, and in the spring of 2023, we introduced our very first honeybee colony.
Tending the Colonies:
Beekeeping quickly became a passion. We spent our first seasons honing our skills, learning the delicate rhythms of the hives, and connecting with our bees and their needs.
Today, our apiary has expanded. Our primary hives thrive on the wild forage of the White Creek homestead, complemented by a smaller, equally vibrant apiary location in nearby Hoosick Falls, New York.
Because our bees have direct access to hundreds of acres of protected state forest and pristine wild meadows, they gather an amazingly diverse diet of natural resources. This incredible biodiversity is essential to keeping our bee populations healthy, vibrant, and strong.
Small Batch. Single Source.
Ethically Harvested:
We believe in a respectful partnership with our colonies, which means we harvest only what the bees can spare, always ensuring they retain ample honey stores to thrive through the cold New York winters.
Shaker Hollow Honey is harvested strictly in limited, single-source small batches. When you taste our honey you are tasting a pure, seasonal snapshot of our family Apiary. Always raw, lightly strained, and kept exactly as the bees intended.
